Have you ever walked into the gym and felt a mix of excitement and intimidation by all of the shiny, metal machines?

Should you start with chest press? Or try leg curls? Maybe even approach the free weights?

What could possibly even be the difference between two pieces of equipment that appear nearly identical?

These are completely normal feelings to experience and questions to ask oneself. In fact, according to a 2018 study by The Independent, nearly one fourth of gym goers are embarrassed to use gym equipment while even more lack the knowledge necessary to advance their workouts.

The most important thing about exercising is to make sure your body feels challenged but unhurt while doing so. Going to the gym comes in different forms for individual people based upon their underlying circumstances as well as their goals.

One way I have learned how to use machines and complete exercises has been by watching and reading tutorials on TikTok, Youtube, and other social media platforms.

But, my favorite way to gain knowledge though is simply by trying things out myself. This idea could be intimidating for anyone (especially for beginners) but failure/trial and error is key to learning, growth and adaptability.

Though it might be a tough idea to grasp, every person started from square one in the gym, no matter how they look or how advanced their abilities like strength and speed are.

At the end of the day, you can do anything you put your mind to. It is you versus yourself and attempting everything you can, even when you’re intimated or confused, is a huge leap towards becoming so much stronger, both physically and mentally.
